Whether we’re manufacturing specialist equipment, supporting clients on site, or delivering training to teams, our goal is always the same: keep people safe, keep operations efficient and ensure everything we supply or support is fit for purpose, first time.
How we prioritise health and safety for the utilities industry
Hy-Ram is proud to be a trusted partner to the utilities sector. Our reputation for excellence is founded on the quality and reliability of our products, developed through close collaboration with customers and partners. Here’s how we ensure health and safety in everything we do…
Building safety & reliability into our products
We take a universal approach to safety that runs through every part of how we work. It starts with how our equipment is designed and built, where the focus is always on quality and safe performance in the field.
That carries through into our manufacturing processes, which are accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and supported by regular audits and internal reviews to make sure everything meets the right standards before it leaves us.
With a dedicated innovation and development team, we utilise advanced technologies such as 3D modelling, CAD, FEA, and CAM techniques. All of our equipment goes through a rigorous research and development process, with extensive testing to ensure it’s manufactured to the highest standards. This in-house capability allows us to create tools and equipment that improve safety, efficiency, and reliability for installers and asset owners alike.
Maintenance & calibration for hire equipment
When you hire from us, all of our equipment, procedures and terms and conditions are HAE certified, ensuring our products stay in peak condition as well as keeping risk to your team and your customers to a minimum. A large part of this is our proactive servicing. We monitor calibration and maintenance schedules and will contact you when it’s time to arrange this, so you’ve got one less thing to think about. And there are plenty more benefits of hiring…
Health & safety equipment
Alongside best practice manufacturing, we offer a huge range of products to keep your team safe on the job. This includes our pipe moling PPE, emergency response spill kits, and a complete range of flame retardant welding tents and shelters. Our pop-up shelters are suitable for both butt fusion and electrofusion welding, keeping contaminants like rain, pollen and dust, away from the welding area.
Training for your team
Having the right equipment is essential, but so is knowing how to operate it safely. That’s why we offer familiarisation product training on Hy-Ram and partner-manufactured equipment. The training our team provides is both practical and tailored to the needs of our customers, helping utility infrastructure teams understand the technical aspects, as well as how to operate safely.
What’s more, Hy-Ram products are supplied with a clear, detailed manual to support safe and correct use. These guides set out both the technical steps and the safety requirements, including when and what type of PPE is needed.
From gloves and eyewear to head and foot protection, the guidance is there to ensure teams have the right information before work begins. It’s a straightforward way to help reduce risk and promote safe working practices on every job.
Health & safety at Hy-Ram: keeping our team safe
We understand that safety starts with our people. Keeping our staff, customers and visitors safe is a top priority and we’re committed to maintaining a safe working environment.
Above & beyond legal requirements
As an ISO 45001-certified business, we take safety seriously. Our directors actively support safety initiatives and take part in weekly walkarounds of our production facility and we conduct regular site visits to our hire depots to ensure consistent standards across all sites.
We’re all about continuous improvement, and undergo independent external safety audits annually to reinforce our already robust procedures.
Team development
We also invest in training and development so our teams’ skills stay sharp and up to date. All new staff and contractors receive a comprehensive induction, including manual handling and fire awareness training with periodic refreshers to maintain competency.
Building safety into workplace culture
We actively involve our workforce in the risk assessment process, capturing their insights to address emerging risks and help shape safer working practices from the ground up.
We foster a blame-free culture of openness where all accidents and near misses are reported, helping us identify trends and implement preventative measures.
Supporting mental & physical health
We recognise that mental health is just as important as physical well-being. We are committed to fostering a supportive workplace where employees feel valued and heard.
Our managers are encouraged to take an empathetic and understanding approach in all interactions with staff, promoting open conversations about mental health and well-being.
To support this, we’ve developed a formal stress risk assessment to help identify and address potential workplace risk.
We’ve also invested in mental health first aid training, providing support for our on-site teams.
